It’s hard to believe Easter is right around the corner. Wasn’t it just Christmas a couple of days ago? We spent every weekend in January and February snowboarding in the mountains and I think that is why I’m shocked that it’s already March.
Now its time to start planning Easter and when Kellogg’s Rice Krispies© reached out asking if I’d be interested in making an Easter project with my kids I couldn’t resist. Our tradition is making cascarones every ear and now after making these Easter nests I think we will add these to our annual tradition.
Can you believe I had never made Rice Krispies© treats in my life? I saw my mom make them once and I remember it was such a fun treat, and wondered why she never made them again. Seriously, who doesn’t love these sweet treats?
Making Easter egg nests out of Rice Krispies© is adorable and simple! The nests are made with the long-established Rice Krispies© treats recipe. I sprinkled a bit of cocoa powder to the mixture making the nests darker in color and gave them a hint of chocolate flavor.
The grass is even edible made out of coconut flakes that I tinted with food coloring. In the nests, my children placed malted milk candy robin egg candies and marshmallow chicks. These nests would make for a beautiful display on a spring dessert buffet or to be used as the focus on your holiday table place setting — perfect for kids and adults alike.

Rice Krispies Easter Nests
Ingredients
- 4 to 8 drops green food coloring
- 1 cup flaked coconut, sweetened
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 10-ounce package marshmallows
- 6 cups Kellogg's Rice Krispies© cereal
- 2 to 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder, optional
Decoration
- mini robin eggs
- Marshmallow chicks
Instructions
- In small bowl add coconut and food coloring. Stir until coconut is tinted. Spread on baking sheet to dry.
- In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.
- Add cereal and cocoa powder, if using. Stir until well coated.
- Divide warm mixture into muffin-pan cups or small ramekins coated with cooking spray. Shape mixture into individual cups. Cool. Remove from pans.
- Fill cooled nests with coconut, robin eggs, and marshmallow chicks. Best if served the same day.

So cute!! My kids and I tried to make chocolate dipped rice crispy squares a few years ago for Christmas and for some reason they didn’t turn out, but the kids had fun!! We will have to try out these cute little nests!!
