Happy Hispanic Heritage Month and cheers to one more week of summer! What a better way to celebrate the season than with a Mexican beer cocktail served on the rocks. More specifically, a chavela! What is a chavela, you ask? Well, the best way to describe it is a classic version of a Mexican cerveza preparada (prepared beer) or a red beer.

Super easy to make and tastes so good on a hot sunny day, this drink is filled with refreshing flavors that you and your friends will love. So remember this drink when youโ€™re planning your next party or in need of a nice cold beverage on a hot summer day.

You can use whatever kind of beer you have on hand, but if youโ€™re buying beer specifically for this drink, I suggest you use a light-bodied Mexican beer, like Modelo. Modelo has been brewing their beer since 1925 so they know a thing or two about authentic Mexican taste.

A chavela is a twist on a michelada, but simpler made with only tomato juice, Tabasco, beer, and ice, with a Tajin seasoned rim. Drink it on its own, or try it with a shot of tequila for a real kick. This beer cocktail is so refreshing and always delicious paired with a spicy Mexican dish.

Watch this video to see just how simple this cocktail is to make.
