Chavela

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month and cheers to one more week of summer! What a better way to celebrate the season than with a Mexican beer cocktail served on the rocks. More specifically, a chavela! What is a chavela, you ask? Well, the best way to describe it is a classic version of a Mexican cerveza preparada (prepared beer) or a red beer.
Super easy to make and tastes so good on a hot sunny day, this drink is filled with refreshing flavors that you and your friends will love. So remember this drink when youโre planning your next party or in need of a nice cold beverage on a hot summer day.
You can use whatever kind of beer you have on hand, but if youโre buying beer specifically for this drink, I suggest you use a light-bodied Mexican beer, like Modelo. Modelo has been brewing their beer since 1925 so they know a thing or two about authentic Mexican taste.
A chavela is a twist on a michelada, but simpler made with only tomato juice, Tabasco, beer, and ice, with a Tajin seasoned rim. Drink it on its own, or try it with a shot of tequila for a real kick. This beer cocktail is so refreshing and always delicious paired with a spicy Mexican dish.
Watch this video to see just how simple this cocktail is to make.
