Peach Paloma Punch
If you love a classic margarita and love drinks with a little fizz you will love a paloma cocktail, which is essentially a highland margarita. A traditional paloma recipe is pretty basic – grapefruit soda, lime juice, and tequila — it’s sweet, sour, and refreshing.
This paloma drink includes sweet peach juice and peach slices making this cocktail a muy bueno Peach Paloma Punch.
What is a Paloma Cocktail?
Paloma (spanish for “dove”) is perhaps the most refreshing cocktail ever created. It’s essentially a fizzy grapefruit margarita. Sweet, sour, a little bitter, and salty, it’s got all four taste groups, plus ice, bubbles, and tequila; what’s not to like?
Ingredients
A traditional paloma cocktail consists of grapefruit soda, lime juice, and tequila. My recipe includes peaches for a delicious summer variation on a classic combination. Here’s what’s in it:
- Peach juice – Either peach juice or nectar works great in this peach paloma punch. Be sure to slice fresh peaches to float in your punch.
- Tequila – I used Exotico tequila blanco, which is clear and crisp with spicy undertones. Feel free to use your favorite tequila!
- Lime juice – I always recommend fresh lime juice in cocktails. I have never liked bottled lime juice. The fresh lime juice in this paloma cocktail makes this drink deliciously tart. To juice limes I recommend a hand held squeezer to release the most juice. And don’t forget slices of limes to float in the paloma drink.
- Grapefruit soda – If you’d like, you can use a combo of grapefruit juice and sparkling water, but I went old school and used Squirt, a traditional grapefruit soda for a classic flavor. I also floated slices of grapefruit for the essence of fresh grapefruit.
- Raw sugar – Traditionally, coarse salt is used to rim serving glasses for a paloma cocktail , but I rimmed the glasses with raw sugar. Feel free to use course salt for a classic paloma.
- Ice – A paloma cocktail is always best when served on the rocks!
Tips
- Freeze citrus. Freeze lime and grapefruit slices to chill punch.
- Taste and adjust. Taste and adjust to find the perfect balance of flavors you love. If you prefer a stronger paloma drink, add an extra splash of tequila.
- If it’s too strong, let the ice melt. If your paloma tastes too strong, let it sit in ice to dilute or add an extra splash of grapefruit soda to serving glass.
- Grapefruit soda. If you cannot find Squirt, Jarritos, and Fresca are grapefruit sodas that are easy to find. For a stronger grapefruit flavor, try a craft soda like Izze.
- No grapefruit soda? Substitute with 2 cups of grapefruit juice (fresh or bottled) and 2 cups of sparkling water.
- Smaller portion. If you don’t want to make 12 servings, you can easily make this recipe in a pitcher and halve the recipe.
